A Typical Day in the Fours
Arrival
Children arrive and hang up their jackets and backpacks, which are checked for notes. Children "sign in" by finding their name card and putting it on our attendance chart. Before meeting we settle in with activities like building, writing, drawing, sand/water play, or fun with manipulatives.
Meeting
Meeting includes attendance, favorite songs, job assignments, calendar activities, and a discussion of our plan for the day.
Choice Time
Children use all areas of our classroom- blocks, dramatic play, easel painting, manipulative toys, writing, library, math and science discovery. Materials change with respect to our curriculum and unit themes.
Teachers offer small group activities such as
- playing cooperative games/board games
- working with the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum
- writing and illustrating class books
- playing mathematical and critical thinking games
- creating artistic projects related to our curriculum/unit themes
- adding elements to and observing life in our aquarium

Outside Play or Big Room Time
We develop large muscles and have fun as a whole group. Our favorite place to play is the Fours Playground, equipped with a boat, zipline, treehouse, bridges, slides, steering wheels, tunnels, and more. We also love going to SandWorld, the Bikes, the Ballpark, the Softball Field. When the weather keeps us in, we play active group games in the Big Room, create obstacle courses, and have time to build or act out stories.
