Our Programs
Elmwood was originally built as an estate. In 1957 its six acre facility was redesigned as a school and summer camp with children in mind. Elmwood children have access to ample outdoor and indoor spaces, which support their growth and development.
Outside, children play at SandWorld, Elmville, Climb, the ballpark, two playgrounds, and and the basketball court. We also have an enclosed area for bike riding.
Inside, our spacious classrooms are thoughtfully planned to provide children with rich opportunities to build extensively in the block area, paint at the easel, and explore sand, water, and play dough. In our kitchen area, the children care for the babydolls, take orders from menus, prepare food, and go on picnics. Our classroom libraries include age appropriate books, magazines, and class authored/illustrated books. Children may go there anytime on their own, and are also read to as part of a group each day. Children have time to make their own choices as well as to take part in teacher-initiated experiences.
With rich, real materials and the support of expert teachers, Elmwood children enjoy themselves while building a foundation for the academic disciplines of Social Studies, Math, Science, Writing and Reading. We recognize that learning and play are essential parts of children's development. Both are respected throughout children's years at Elmwood.
